What's in a face?

As unique individuals we all have different face shapes, sizes and characteristics.

The shape, relative size, jawline, neck length and other physical characteristics of the face should ideally all be considered when selecting the perfect pair of earrings or necklace. Your choice of earrings and necklaces can either compliment or exaggerate the characteristics of your face. Ideally you should emphasise your good features with the selection of the right jewellery and attempt to minimize any features that you don’t want to be the focus of attention.

The eye is drawn to the jewellery you wear, so attention will be drawn to where ever you position the jewellery. If you are fortunate enough to have a long, elegant neck then you are very lucky as you will be able to wear all types of earrings and necklaces. If you have a short neck then it is best if you avoid long dangly earrings and shorter length necklaces as these will focus attention your neck.

Fashions come and go but ideally your jewellery should be proportional to your size. Petite ladies will normally look better in smaller, more dainty jewellery, whereas a lady of more generous proportions will choose chunkier, earrings and necklaces. A large pair of earrings or necklace will overpower a small face, whilst tiny stud earrings and a small drop pendant will be lost on the larger lady. The shape of your face can also influence the shape and type of jewellery that suits you. If you have a very round face, then round earrings will exaggerate the roundness, wheres oval or long, thin earrings will have the effect of slimming the face down. If you have and square jawline or angular facial features then avoid angular earrings and necklaces will emphasise these characteristics. The proportion of a long thin face can be equalised by selecting round or wide shaped earrings and necklaces. A long face will be lengthened by wearing long thin earrings!

There are generally thought to be nine different face shapes.

Oval

This is a balanced , in proportion versatile face, with no extreme characteristics. The face is slightly longer in length than width and the chin is softly rounded.

This is the ideal face shape which suites any type of earrings. Very long earrings would not be ideal if your neck is short.

Recommended ranges: All Ranges

Round

The length and width of your face are almost equal and your jaw rounded. Your cheekbones are the widest part of your face.

Earrings can be used to lengthen the face. Oval or long thin shapes are good. Dangly earrings are good if your neck is long. Avoid round earrings as these will add width to your face.

Recommended ranges: Classic Leaf, Lily, Ivy

Rectangle

Your face is long and thin and you have a fairly square jaw line. Your forehead, cheekbones and jaw-line are equal widths.

Earrings can be used to shorten the face. Round earrings are good, but avoid angular earrings which will exaggerate your jawline. Long dangly earring are also best avoided as these lengthen your face.

Recommended ranges: Eternity, Champagne, Ivy, From the Heart, Primrose

Oblong

Your face is long and thin and your jawline is softly rounded. Your forehead, cheekbones and jaw-line are equal widths.

Earrings can be used to shorten the face. Round and curvaceous earrings are good. Avoid long thin dangle earrings. Short drop earrings (to mouth level only) could add width and give the illusion of reducing the length of the face.
