About us

In the beginning
I have always had a great love for individual, hand made jewellery. After fifteen years of teaching biology in further education colleges, it was time for me to follow a more creative calling. I decided to turn my great passion for jewellery into a business and KFD Jewellery was born. I started making jewellery on a part time basis in 1999, becoming full time in 2001. I have never looked back and enjoy every moment of working in my quiet workshop in rural Cambridgeshire.

Design Inspiration
All of my inspiration for new jewellery designs originates from what I see around me in the natural world. All of my leaf based designs (Classical Leaf, Ivy and Dewdrop)came to me whilst I was walking my dog in the countryside around my home. The colourful splendor of the country’s wonderful garden shows have gifted me the Lily and Exotic Orchid Ranges.

Motivation
I enjoy the whole process of making my jewellery, from the concept and design to the making and finishing through to the packaging and sale. I am responsible for every piece of jewellery produced under the KFD Jewellery mantle. I sell my jewellery direct to the public via craft shows and exhibitions, through my web site and I also supply a variety of jewellery shops and galleries around the country. Craft fairs provide me with invaluable feedback about the people who buy my jewellery. I know that my jewellery is suitable for teens through to those with more experience of life (I have one customer who bought a classical leaf torque for herself and proudly stated that she was 87 years young!) I regularly have conversations with customers at shows who tell me that they bought a piece last time they saw me, or were given a piece as a present and have loved wearing it. There is nothing more satisfying then walking down a road and seeing someone wearing your jewellery!

Bridal
Due to popular demand I have included bridal jewellery and tiaras into three of my existing collections (Lily, Ivy and Classical leaf). The more recent Primrose Collection would also be very appropriate as bridal jewellery. As an additional service to any bride to be I will try to match the colours of the swatches of fabric used to make the bridesmaid dresses to freshwater pearls, semi-precious stones or coloured enamel resins to incorporate into the design of the bridal jewellery.

Commissions
I welcome the opportunity to work on bespoke pieces and am happy to discuss your ideas by in person, by telephone, e-mail or letter.
